Removing engine fan.

What is the best way to remove engine fan from 2001 F250 with 5.4 V8? I need the fan out of way to give me better access to swing hammer on AC clutch. Can I remove the bolts on the fan clutch to remove the plastic fan?

I usually have good luck with the belt still on and can get it to pop loose with the aid of a good thump of a dead blow hammer on a wrench. Once loose it should unthread by hand the rest of the way. If that isn't working you may need to find a pneumatic style wrench to get it to break loose.

Some parts stores have fan clutch tools you can rent.
