Hi folks, been a while since I posted anything here. I am in the process of repairing the rust-out in the front part of the bed on my '65 Styleside. I need a new front bed support (cross member). I have been looking for some time now and the only cross members that I have found for these mid 60's trucks are for the Flareside. I made up a drawing in order to have one made locally at a fab shop that is reported to do good work. When I showed them what I needed they said that the flat part they could do but the formed ends were out of their field of expertise. Any suggestions? Mine can't be the only truck with this problem. Thanks, Steve
I've got the same issue with my 66 styleside bed. I've got a parts truck that I'll be swapping the front portion of the floor from, including the cross member.
It's my understanding that the second cross member is the same as the front. If true, that doubles your odds of finding one at a scrap yard.

The 2nd cross member cannot be the same as the front, as it was only supplied with the complete bed pan.
Thanks for your replies. At least now we have a part number for reference. Thanks Number Dummy. I think my best bet it to fabricate the cross sill and then add shims to the ends to compensate for the formed part. Removing all the spot welds is the hardenst part but the spot weld drill bits that I recently bought have been up to the task. Steve
Steve, I would check Craigslist. I found a trailer made of a 64 styleside bed on the original frame for $300.00. Was able to use a piece of the frame to reinforce my frame, wheels were in better condition than two of my originals, and the crossmember was in perfect condition, and enough of the front panel was used to rebuild mine
. Was well worth the money
hey steve can I get a copy of your drawing ? have a bed with a bad front cross member going to try to make one also I need to make a die to press about 10 inches of bed floor maybe a pipe dream but I'm going to try it any way thanks mike
hello113, It is just as easy to tell you the dimensions. The bottom of the channel measures 2". The sides are 1 1/2". the top flanges on either side are 3/4". If you were to draw it out you would have a "U" with wings (flanges). the length of the support is 68 1/2". You can reference your existing support and see the shape I am talking about. Hope this helps. Steve
