1946 wrecker

hello all

I am new to this site. I have owned several Ford trucks over the years. My daily driver is a 95 F150 XLT Supercab. I am geting a 1946 1-1/2 ton wrecker as a projrct to retstore.
I have a few questions on the 1946 i would like help on. I found the VIN on the frame but am confused about some of my findings on the truck.
It has the flat head V8, a 114" wheel base and dual rear tires. The VIN starts out with 699T but the tag on the glove box says it is a model 598T and the engine number on the glove box tag is the same as the numbers stamped on the frame. since the numbers on the frame and tag match that tells me that the cab is origional to the frame. The model on the tag "598T tells me it is a 1945 but the wheel base is all wrong. I looked under the truck and see no signes that the frame has been altered.
So the main question is did Ford mix and match parts on trucks during assembly?
Is a 114" wheel base normal on a 1-1/2 ton truck?
Are there any good books that have good technical information on these old trucks?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have a pic of your truck to post here? The frame could be shortened. Are you measuring from the center of the front wheel hub to the center of the rear wheel hub?

i am measuring from center to center on the axles and i have seen no signs that the frame has been shortened. i had looked at the link you attached. like i said the tag on the glove box says model 598T but the first numbers on the frame are 699T. i don't have the truck home yet so i can't get much more info at this point.

114" is correct for the half ton. 20" wheels?
