Excessive oil !!! Please help

I just changed my oil on a 2009 6.4 powerstroke and pulled out 24 quarts of oil at 4200 miles since last oil change where I put in 15 quarts ! That's 9 extra quarts of oil in 4200 miles!! What's going on??

My guess is you have a leaking internal fuel line, and you've got 9 quarts of diesel in it. Sorry for the bad news. Your lucky you still have a bottom end. Could have resulted in a runaway, and will destroy your motor if you don't fix it immediately.

Some diesel experts will chime in here soon hopefully, so take my advise with a grain of salt.

I would add a can, or 2 of engine restore, then check. It can't hurt, or really help, but it may help figuring it out.

^^^^^^ THIS!!!! I don't know about the "runaway"; but yup, you have an internal fuel leak; and your oil is being diluted, possibly taking out your engine bearings......possibly already gone. Sorry.

One of the reasons to pull the dipstick frequently will not only tell if you are losing oil; but will also tell if you are gaining oil!!
Good luck!

Does the oil smell like it has fuel in it? That will tell you what is going on

The runaway happens when there's enough in the crankcase that the pressure pushes it back up past the rings. Don't worry about it though, the A/C compressor will sacrifice Itself when it catches the rod coming through the block. I know of this happening on 2 6.4 trucks.

1) do not let a 6.4 go to extened drain intervals
2) use the thickets oil possible depending on the temp at the time of the year
3) use a fuel lube such as opti lube
4) you might have a fuel leak from high pressure fuel pump or from an injector seal
5) you might have excess fuel in oil due to fuel contamination due to thei regen process
6) high oil or fuel/oil levels causes high crank case pressure and could result in cracks at various parts of the engine or seal leaks as well

7) check your oil more frequently
8) biofuel will also lube the high pressure fuel pump

I would drain the oil and refil with good oil, then check it weekly..if the oil level rises...time for a deep dive to see where the fuel is coming from.

I am about to go to the Oregon dunes 350 miles each way, if I keep a close eye on the oil I should be ok unless it builds up really fast , then I would change it again to get home.
How much do you think this will cost to get fixed?

Personally,I would likely cancel the trip, or find another vehicle to run.
ANY diesel can get real expensive to work on, espeially if you have to hire it done. But, that is just me being cautious, maybe.
Good luck with whatever you do!!!

6.4l fuel in oil...DPF will do that and more like take out the turbo..Feeds fuel in the two rear cylinders for regen...if DPF gets clogged its all over...truck will stay in regen for too long.
Some guys gut it out and tune for it and get a real truck with more mileage and power and engine life.
Also you could have a leaky pump...I would gut the DPF in a heartbeat or sell it and get a 6.7L...IMHO.

I did the delete already partially because of this issue, and about 3 moths ago Ford replaced the high pressure fuel pump (had to remove the cab to do it) thought the delete would fix the issue but it didn't. Sounding like a leak in the system, I'll take it in after my trip. I'll be watching the oil like a hawk
