I have a 1978 f150 4x4 frankenstein. It has doors and front clip from an f250 and the vin decodes 2wd. Vin also decodes 351m. It has a 351w. I need headers. Has anyone else ran across this problem? Every part number I find lists only the 351m. Any help would be appreciated.

Apparently all too often.
You do realize the 351W wasn't offered in this generation truck, right?
Try shorty 302 Mustang headers or shorty early/late Bronco headers.
Im well aware of this. Just curious if anyone else has done this. Im sure I dont have the only 73-79 f150 with a windsor. Any help would be appreciated. would headers for an 80 up fit? Thanks

Your awareness of the issue could not be deduced from your original post.
Long tube headers for a 302 won,t work on a windsor. The Windsor has a taller deck height which makes the headers angle in too far and interfere with starter clearance. 90,s mustang shortys may work?

It doesn,t matter what frame is involved. Long tube Windsor headers won,t work on a 302. My friend has an 81 f2504x4, that he put a windsor into, he has long tubes on it, hedman I think. So maybe that is an option.
I'm probably splitting hairs but both the 302 and 351W are Windsor engine designs.
The term "Windsor" in this thread is casually being used to differentiate the 351W from the 302 but for newer enthusiasts potentially reading this thread that could be somewhat misleading.
There's no long tube headers available although if you have a 110 welder and some tube, you can make a set. The issues is the deck height vs the coil towers vs the starter vs the tranny linkage vs everything else in the way. They would be very kinky before they were done but still possible for you CAN see a daylight trail through there. But they would need to go way up before coming back down. I'd hate to change spark plugs after that...
I've heard either a 80-86 passenger side or it may be the driver's side will fit with some slight modifications but that's it to get you started.
