I got a 1979 F250 4X4 with a 351W in it... not a 351M. im looking for some headers but they don't make em' for that specific swap. anyone know if the 1980-1987 351W headers offered by hedman will work? any suggestions and input is greatly appreciated. matt.
With this you will want to be very careful which you choose, you would be best off trying to find some shorty headers or block hugger headers. Even in that case, you can never be too sure what the clearances will be and whatnot.
You don't want to spend 120 dollars on a set of headers just to find out that they exit directly over the frame rail with less than an inch to spare, do you?
Try a search through the forums, or even try looking through the galleries to see if there are any other trucks running this same engine as you are (351w) and if they are running headers on it, simply ask them what they used and any difficulties they may have had.
Also keep in mind That that 2x4 and 4x4 frame placement may be different, there could also in certain cases be problems with the transmission (auto vs. manual), thats why sometimes when your looking for headers you see then with an * or a small reference number next to it, and you read that reference number and it may give you a message like: "auto trans. only"
I needed a set for my drag car and i went to one of the national parts stores they said i could try them but dont scratch them so they order the ones i thought would work . They did not work i took them back got my money back and a better understanding of what i needed. Hope this helps.
