ive looked, but i cant seem to find any proformance headers for the 351 windsor sb. well, any headers at all, really. id really like to go with something from Hooker or Edilbrock, but i dont even know where to start to look.
I have a 1994 351W that I swapped into mine. I went with BBK Headers. The right one has a emissions tube that I simply put a pipe plug into in order to block it. They work great and sound even better. I have engine photos in my gallery.
Beast, The engine looks great, I found I don't have what it takes to keep one looking like that. That style header is what I had in mind when I made my first reply.
It would be nice to get something like that for the FE.
71fordkid, You may want to look into getting 302 headers for a ( 73-79) !
I have installed them on 351w in 65- 79s many, many, times , they work very
well. The only problem I have ever encounter is the trans cross member, the
header pipes come out right in line with the trans cross member, and you have
to run them over or under, this is a problem with a 302 or 351w. I have come
up with a cure, check out this link to my gallery!
JMO, but I think headers are a waste of time and money on the street... Unless you're going racing and have equal length tubes and tuned collector length, the horsepower gain is minimal. Cast iron manifolds create fewer under the hood temp problems, and with a good, free flowing exhaust system will put near the same, and in some cases more horsepower to the ground then headers. An H or X pipe, depending on your engine and camshaft combination along with a properly sized exhaust system will generally produce more torque then a set of mail order headers, too. We've tried a bunch of combinations on the chassis dyno. I match port my exhaust manifolds and heads to the exhaust gasket to eliminate any restrictions, but other then that I just use some of the better designed, less restrictive factory exhaust manifolds... Besides that, I hate exhaust leaks.....
I wish I had read this thread before buying headers for my truck (71 F-250, 390). Now I have 1 header on and a bolt broke off in the head on the other side. Any suggestions how to get it out? I would have probably broken the bolt anyway because the only reason I went t with the headers is because I had replace the exhaust manifold gaskets anyway.

if the broken bolt isn't sticking out at all, you'll have to drill it out re-thread it and install a heely coil. i think you should be able to find a heely coil kit at the auto parts store. take one of the bolts that's not busted so they can match the thread size.
and on the other hand, shorty headers do little but improve underhood aesthetics. The cast iron stockers move heat out from under the hood far better then thin tube headers. If you run the shorties, might at least consider some of the heat wrap for them.... It doesn't do a lot of good to spend $$$$ on headers in an attempt to improve performance, then generate a bunch of hot air that will go through the air cleaner and adversly affect engine performance and efficiency. Improvements in performance come from a well thought out engine package, not just bolt ons......
