rear bumper brackets for '76 F350 SCS

I am starting to work on my '76 SCS and I am in the process of replacing the mystery rear bumper. It looks like somewhere along the way the old owner bought some random bumper that was not wide enough for the body of the truck and it required some clearancing (denting) of the bed corners so that will need to be fixed. I also need to get some rear bumper brackets.

Can anyone tell me if I need the 64-72 or 73-79 bumper brackets? I am thinking the 72 style are needed due to the narrower frame.

somehow I think I lucked into the correct set of bumper brackets...bought a set on eBay that were supposedly from a 70. The ones that showed up at my door were not the ones from the pics, but instead the 73-79 style. They are a little rough, but very solid.

The holes all line up perfectly and the 67-72 bumper I bought lines up with the holes. Just need to buy a set of bumper bolts and paint the bumper.

pics of what I thought I was getting:

What I actually got! hot dang!

Be thankful you didn't get the 1964/72 contour rear bumper brackets, because they will not work on 1973/79's, regardless of what the width between the inner frame rails behind the cab are.

Most ebay sellers haven't a single clue what parts fit, even if they're NOS with parts numbers on them.

I did look at a lot of threads about this topic and some of the pictures you had posted in other threads about this. Probably a fools errand, but what I had planned to do was use the contoured ends and then modify the 64-72 style. I figured that having the part that interfaced with the bumper was most important. That said, after looking at these on the truck that would have been impossible. The rear spring hangers on the Super Camper Special are so close to the end of the frame, that the outer pieces would have been useless. Bending bar stock that size would have been a job for Superman only I fear.

As lucky would have it, all that was not necessary.

One thing that seems odd is how far out the bumper looks. I wonder if that is just a symptom of the 140" wheelbase...there just isn't any room to tuck it up any closer to the bed. Though it does look nice relative to the tow hitch, but that has always looked awfully low to me as well.

I don't have my '79 Supercab anymore to compare the distance of the mounting points on the frame relative to the end of the frame or else I would probably try these brackets on for size.
