1977 F-150 Custom transmission?

I have a 77 f-150 with what I'm told is no reverse. How hard is it to rebuild these transmissions, or is it just cheaper to find a used one? What would generally be in a truck with a 351M? I am just getting into the Ford trucks, so i figured its either a C4 or C6.

Definitely a C6. Call your local tranny shop for a price on a rebuild. Probably around $500 or so. You can pick up a good used C6 for probably half that but you don't really know what you are getting.

TRANS code not within the VIN .. Listed by itself on Warranty Plate.

Only A/T available with 351M/400 = C6.

Thank you so much, everyone. Will this same transmission bolt right up to a 71 460, should I decide to put the one i have in this truck?

Transmission will bolt up,but you will most likely need to change the torque converter. There are 2 different crank pilot sizes. A 71 engine probably has the larger one.
