Rear end suggestions?

Need some guidance on the best/most cost efficient way to change my 9" 3.00 rear peg leg to a LSD. 74 F100 2WD, 445 stroker, C6. Will be a daily street beater. No towing or hauling.

A complete center section would be easiest. A "good used" unit would hopefully be cheapest. Or all new at the other end of the spectrum would be more spendy. Example attached.

Moser Engineering - 9" & 9 1/2" Ford Complete Built To Order Center Section / Third Member - Center Sections & Parts

A 3.50 rear gear is a decent balance btwn acceleration and MPG.

I'd definitely get a locker instead of an LSD.... Yukon or a Detroit.

Yep. Plan on doing it all myself. Just trying to figure out the best way to go. Not really interested in a noisy locker. Im actually looking at a Trac-Loc from Summit.
Part number SUM-CTF9TRACL31.

Swapping in a new carrier is pretty easy but you will need a bearing puller (or just get new carrier bearings) and a dial indicator to check backlash.

Limited slip difs for a 9" are pretty common and most are fully rebuildable so one option might be to pick up a used one and a rebuild kit.

Do you plan to stay with your current gears? If you ever plan to change them now would be the time and then maybe just buying a new third member with all new parts might be the way to go.

You may not want to count out all lockers. There are ones that fit into your current open carrier but I believe these all will "click" some. Mine in my bronco does. Full case lockers seem to be quieter and some lockers are even marketed and "quiet"

Just a note about posi, there are clutch type ones and helical gear ones. The trac loc you are looking at is a clutch type. They are good but as the clutches wear out they become weaker (they can be rebuilt though). The gear type ones don't seam to wear out but cost more than the clutch ones.
