Before elaborating much, we need to know what the configuration of your truck is. Stock, 12V, stock engine, six or eight, tell us more.
I called the good folks at Vintage Air and decided on their ComPac Gen11 H/C for the cab. I used the rotary pod control, a SD-508 compressor, and a 12 x 24 condenser.
I had to make the mounting brackets for the evaporator as those supplied by VA were far from adequate.
I obtained my engine compartment hardware for my non stock engine. This took a bit of planning, modification of the bracketry. Talk to VA about this. The installation was interesting and the system works well.

All 48-50 cabs are the same, so if it fits an F-1 it fits the bigger trucks too.

A 302, regardless of yr, had A/C as an option, so just need to track down the right brackets in the JY, Ebay, etc.

The rest is about getting the right size parts which good advice has been given above. Call up Vintage Air, or whoever you want that deals in retro A/C units and go from there.

I'm with you on A/C; I live in the south and that is one luxury that is really nice to have.

The fact is VA or no other vendor makes a ready for installation kit for the Ford truck cabs of this vintage. This puts you on your own or asking questions of those of us who have done the installation. There are many options. Have fun.

Look at Classic Air here.

1948 - 1952 Ford Pickup Truck Air Conditioning System | 48 - 52 Ford Pickup Truck AC

If you don't see what you need on their site, contact their tech guru. They are extremely helpful. I found a system that will going in my '51 that does include floor vents for heat which I do not see on any other systems.

Later!
