i'm making up my exhaust system for my 56, and the driver side gets pretty busy with everything wanting to be in the same place. any great header runs you guys would like to show off? my set-up is, 89' 302/aod stock headers, cpp under floor power MC, steering column will go into the crown vic front end (narrowed) and I don't think it will fight me too much. - - - -anybody have any pictures of how they fit everything, or how you ran your pipes? thank you, kurt.
Here are a few pics of how I ran mine. My steering shaft is rubbing the header just a bit. I plan to notch it a little to get clearance.
My front end if a Flat Out Engineering kit for the 96 C4 Corvette. My Engine is 68' 302 and the headers I went with are Patriot Clippster headers from Summit Racing They seem very well made but have not turned over the engine with them yet. And the black coating is very thin and scrapped off very easy. I'd suggest getting the uncoated version and having them done yourself.
I do have a set of Sampson headers that came off the engine. The only reason I replaced them was the passenger side was hitting the upper A Arm mount.
I have the same MC booster as yours. one thing I left out is that I retained the original trans crossmember which is a bit bulky. your "X" pipe in just the right place cleared the MC ok, I was going to use an "H" pipe. my passenger side pipe goes over the trans crossmember, but the driver side might have to dip down under, or go to the outside of frame, and back again after MC. i'll keep staring at it for now.
I did not use the stock mount for the mc. I boxed the frame and mounted the mc to the frame itself. I did reuse the stock brake pedal and mount though.
I have a 302/AOD, but stock brakes for now - using Sanderson headers, but they exit nearly straight down, so plenty of room to make the turn to the rear and clear everything. I intend to put in a power M/C in the future and I've got plenty of room....

I was looking for the steering route through a tight area

Hey Ernie do you happen to have any photos of those headers. I'm using stock..ish manifold now but want to use headers. My choice of engine location, motor mounts, AOD transmission and the steering box is proving a bad combo for headers. Thanks

I can take a pics of the ones I have too if you like. On mine only one of the headers (passenger I think) was straight down. The other pointed back towards the cab.

I don't have any good pics of them installed...the whole thing was sort of a rush job anyway. I built the truck in about 5 weeks from rolling chassis to daily driver status (minus finished interior and unbroken glass) because my little beater car dropped a valve seat.
I tried two other sets of headers that didn't work with my engine mounts until I found the Sandersons and got a deal on a used set that had been modified on eBay.
They were modified by extending the collector straight down before turning back, but I don't think that made any difference in the clearance. Worked for me, but my issue was the engine mount - both sides. I still ended up clearancing the mount and the headers to get them in right. I spent more time than I wanted on the exhaust!!
I have some Patriot block huggers that are effectively brand new in the box with only scratched paint from trial fitting!!
