My truck has been modified here and there over the years. Ive owned the truck for 2 months. The steering has so much play it was unbelievable. The steering column was out of a late 70s pickup or bronco. Instead of using the proper parts to attach the rag joint they welded the ends on to the steering column and stock steering box.
The time has come to rip all this out and go power steering with a new column. For those of you that have used the Mid-Fifty Toyota power steering conversion kit.... what length of aftermarket tilt steering column did you use? Also, what length of drop you used for the column.
I'm not very handy so this has been an experience so far. I've included some pics and a video of my mess...
Here you can tell the bottom rag joint has been welded to the shaft coming out of the manual steer box. The other end is welded to the shaft on the steering column.
I'd look at the power steering box that CPP (Classic Performance Parts) makes. It's a new steering box not a rebuilt Toyota steering box adapted to fit. CPP also sells a Saginaw power steering pump and mounting brackets to match. Personally, I'm not a fan of adapting Toyota parts to these early pick ups.

Yes, I saw the CPP 400 in another thread. I will go that route.
