I have a 2001 F250 Super Duty V8 7.3 L. I removed the water-pump then waited five days for the oring for the new pump. I installed it and now the truck will not start. I have drained the fuel water separator and replaced the filter. On the passengers side through the kick panel I found that button popped out so I pushed it back in and still it will not run. It acts like its not getting fuel but if my fuel water separator is filing up i'm assuming mu fuel pump is working?? Any ideas?
I do get the wait to start light, I have tried cycling the start switch after the wait to start light goes out three or four times before trying to start with no luck. when i try several times in a row to start it I do get smoke coming from under the hood. I removed the air filter and tried to get it going with either and it will turn over but it will not start..seems like no fuel but I don't know
Do not use ether, it does not mix well with the glow plugs! Smoke from under the hood? The origin of that should be your first concern. Did you knock any of your electrical connections loose when working on that water pump? I'd check that stuff first and it would be best if you had the equipment to scan they system and see what's going on.
I should have been more clear in my questions. I was meaning smoke coming out of the tail pipe. I recommend not using starting fluid on these motors. Starting fluid hitting a hot glow plug can have devastating results.
Any idea what's smoking while trying to start it? Battery cables? Starter?
