460 van conversion w/ e4od... aka money pit! ;'-(
On trans number 3 in my e350 4x4 van.
I just put a replacement e4od in and it drove fine for a day, and shifted fine in all gears, but idled rough and so I spent about thirty minutes trying to troubleshoot the idle and when I went to drive it away, the trans would not engage unless the rpms were up around 3k!
No codes, trans fluid level fine, speedometer works, brake lights work.
What could it be?
Please help!
I'm tempted to just use this thing for target practice.
Thanks,
Cam.
i'm sorry, i'm no help at all.
was this a used trans you installed?
nothing good makes it not engage until the rpm's are that high.
if i were guessing, i'd say #3 was bad before you installed it.
any kind of warranty or exchange possible?
if going to the trouble to install an unknown transmission, i'd seek out a transmission shop with a dyno that can verify that it is a good trans before installing it. most bigger towns should have at least one shop with a dyno if you call around.
food for thought.
If it wasn't dead at this point, 3000 RPM to make it engage certainly killed it.
Something mechanical broke. It could be a seal, the pump, or a part of the rotating assembly. It's impossible to narrow it down to the exact part without a teardown.
