I am going the have Line-x done on my truck.
The debate now is remove the bed bolts or spray over them?
What was the general consensus on this?
The line-x dealer says they remove the bolts all the time and that is the preferred way to go.
I am not so sure.
I really don’t want those bolts removed and the potential problems that could come with that
Anyone know why my dealer would prefer to get sprayed locally on a new truck rather than having done at factory? I presume they are getting a little kickback. Just so long as it's an equivalent product and I'm not paying more for it, I have no issue with the idea.

I would personally go with what Ford recommends and not remove the bolts eliminating the potential of a soft seal.

I'm sure you're theory is exactly right. They make very little on the Ford option in your build. Their kickback from the local shop is likely higher...
LineX through my dealer was $50 less than factory. I believe it is a much tougher finish although factory isn't bad. I also put a rubber mat in finally since things still slide around too much for my taste. I hate chasing tool boxes and gas cans back to the rear of the box. If you rarely carry anything it won't be a problem. The second benefit is helping to keep the camper in place. Even when tied down correctly it can shift a little and although I never gave the LineX a chance to prove itself I am sure of the bond with the rubber mat. Only drawback is having to roll it up for the GN.
Rob, I run a rubber mat too to keep things from sliding on my spray liner. However, I don't pull it when I put my 5ver hitch in for the summer. I just used a hole saw to score holes in the OE prep locations and finished the job with a utility knife. Makes for a perfect circle. Did the same on my last truck. Very easy mod and now no sliding when I have stuff in the bed with my 5ver hitch either.

I'm sure if the guys at Line-X say it's fine to remove the bolts, then I would stick with that. They have probably done over a million trucks North America wide.
Here's the misleading Line-X vs Ford Factory Spray-In Video that was being discussed if you guys haven't seeen it. I don't know how to post videos so there's the YouTube link.
I had pretty much decided to go with Line-X until I saw this video. I like that once the Ford spray-in liner was ripped out, the paint was still new and shiney underneath. I like the fact that it doesn't seem so permanent.
Now that video may be misleading in parts as pointed out in a previous post, but Ford obviously doesn't do any kind of prep-work to the bed that Line-X does. Line-X destroys the finish on the bed during the prep. Which would make me belive the Line-X will be better long term.
But I like the fact that I could rip out the Ford spray-in and the bed would still look brand new.
Also are there any issues with them running a steel chisel across the aluminum? When I got my aluminum F-150 I was told Ford had to invest in all new tools and techniques because tools used on steel bodies cannot be used on aluminum bodies.
After seeing the first picture in a post titled "how does it work" I am wondering if I should cancel the bed liner in my order while I still can. They don't seem to take much care when masking off pieces attached to the box and it looks pretty bad in my opinion. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...s-it-work.html
I used Line-X of Amarillo and they did a great job, I added the UV protectant and their price was the best I found in a 200 mile radius. Love the Line-X liner!

Thanks Rodney, great tip. I considered it at first and then decided to make that decision at the last minute so I can be rushed to lay it out and cut under pressure. Your encouragement may get it done sooner!!

With my 2004 f150 I installed a power lock on the tailgate and had to drill through a spot that was line x sprayed. Drilling 3 1/4" holes I went through 2 drill bits. Not going through bits like use one and when it dulls switch to another, I used it, when it started glowing red I cooled it, cut 1/4" off and re sharpened. I repeated this until I ran out of flutes to sharpen them switched. (About 5 times cutting it down each bit). Line x is tough stuff and the preferred and faster way to change a fuel pump at a shop is to remove the bolts and lift the bed with the lift, then pull the truck out from under it over dropping the tank, it would be very difficult to chip the line x off the bolts to be able to get the socket on them to get them out. May cause a higher labor rate to drop the tank over removing the bed as well as it is more time consuming. I'm going to have my bolts removed when the line x is installed.
