Not your typical "Lifted" thread. Friendly debate....
Ok....Here's the deal. I'm a few months from ordering my dream truck and my wife is totally on board with the truck I want. In fact, she wants to get it earlier. This is where the friendly debate begins. I want either a 4" lift or a 6" lift. The debate isn't which lift, but whether I should get the lift at all. You see, she thinks I'm too old to have a truck that's lifted and I'm trying to hold onto my youth. I've always loved lifted trucks but have never been in a position where I could afford it. Anyway, I would like to know what age range we have on the forum with owners of lifted trucks or even the ones that plan on lifting. I'm 42 and I don't think I'm too old. You gotta help me out guys...

Lift it if you are going to put big tires on it and 4 wheel it. Otherwise, it just makes them look all wrong.
I'm 36, drive a 8" lifted megacab on 24x38's, tuned and deleted. I'm actually getting rid of my megacab to purchase a new superduty. I'm tired of driving a "lifted" truck. The ride is harsh. I don't care what anybody says, but anything over 35" tires starts to ride like crap. This is from personal experience. I've had 20x10 on 35's, 20x10 on 38's, 22x11 on 37's, and 24x14 on 38's. The weight of big tires, big and wide wheels, will all reduce comfort. It's simple physics.
Anyhow.......I'm most likely going with a basic 3" leveling kit with 35" tires. I mean BASIC. I want to keep the factory springs to keep the ride as "stock" as possible. I'll probably use a radius arm drop bracket to keep everything in proper alignment.
Reason I'm going with the leveling kit is to make the truck look more aggressive. These new superduty's are already big from the factory. A small level goes a long way with these trucks. It's will give you that "lifted" look, without compromising too much comfort. My dealer has a truck with a 2" level on 35" toyo m/t and it looks really good.
My F150 had a mild lift on it, and when I towed it was always nose high. I hated it. So my current ride will stay as is. Heck it's pretty tall as it stands. Plus I'm past the 4 ohhhhh mark... getting too old!
Its a personal preference thing. Lift it 4 or 6 and you lose a lot of the trucks towing stability IMO. I put a 1.5 level and 34.8" tall tires, I couldn't imagine going any taller. Its at least as tall as an F150 with a 4" lift probably taller. Oh I'm 37.

I say you should lift it, so you can get it out of your system. Keep any stock parts you switch out so you can go back to stock if you ever want it closer to the ground.
My BIL is 50 and he has 2 lifted trucks. One is really big, the other is more reasonable. He has a few other cool cars to drive, so it probably won't get old with him. However, it can be a pain driving a big truck sometimes....mostly for city dwellers.
Who knows, maybe you'll wish you'd always done it and it'll be all you'll ever drive from now on.
I'm done with it. First lifted truck was in 1977 F-250
I have one 17 F-250 with a 1 1/2" front level kit and 34" tires & wheels and the second one also 17 F-250 I'm leaving bone stock.
Im 22 and wont be lifting mine. Been there done that and I just dont see a cool factor in it anymore. Everyone lifts and puts black rims on right from the get go to be unique, but in reality that set up is almost more common than stock lol. As mentioned above, they get old quick and ride no where near as good as a good suspension on a stock height truck. If anything just level it and throw 37s on it for that stock with big meat look and it will look 100 times better than those huge bro-dozers floating down the highway. Maybe im getting old, but i want this truck to be as comfortable and functional as possible, none of the looks cool but functionality suffers stuff anymore haha.
Hmm I'm 50 going on 20 I guess. Hell everyone saying lifted trucks ride stiff. All I hear on hear are people bitching about the non lifted duty riding like chit. I have two lifted 17s. Both ride far better than the a few of the non lifted 17s I've rode in. So that's hog wash on the ride thing. I don't do cheap stuff though either. I pull 38 foot boat. A 42 fiver. And all kinds of equipment. Trailers ect. Amp research boards are nice. Drop down more than enough to get in and out. I think 4. Inches n 37s would look perfect. As I've played with my dually air lift at all heights between 2 and 10 inches. My king ranch. / boys whip. Has a 6 inch fits lift that seems a bit tall for me. Although rides ridiculously good. Only mod we did was lower tire pressure down to a very respectable 62 pds in the front. Tires are 22s forces on 37 s. I hardly would feel old at 40. lol I'm 50. And don't feel a day older than I did when I was twenty. Few pounds heavier. Though. Wth is too old too lift a truck anyway. Age is just measurement. Just like the difference between 4 inch to 6 inch. Lift it. Do it right. And know what you've been missing. Now loving it. Too old. Wtf. 👍👍👍

I do agree with the age thing. That shouldnt even be an issue, dont worry about that at all, do what you want to do and forget what others think.
I am on my 3rd SD350. In 2000, I ended up leveling front, 2005, never did lift, but put almost 35" tires on it. I think when I go to new tires, I will level, and perhaps go 37, or if not then 35 atleast. For me it's already fairly tall, can't get into parking structures anyway. Just waiting to see how the trailer makes her squat cause the rear is atleast 3" higher than the 2005. Do what you like and enjoy. I don't think if you buy a good lift product you will be disappointed. How tall are you and the family, cause a 6 inch lift will require a ladder for the shorties in the fam.
