There was a top trim piece that was put on with adhesive, like is on Rick's truck below, but all of the others were seriously attached with studs and clips.

And, since we don't have pics of your truck in this thread I really can't say what you have.

I agree with Gary. However, I have seen FAR more trucks with the lower "racetrack" style trim than the wheel lip mouldings, so you are in good company. Apparently, that was a very popular look in the 1970s through the mid 1980s.

I personally really like the upper moulding *my* truck has, but many do not. Ford must not have liked it very much either, because they dropped it after only one model year and went back to the lower racetrack style moulding your truck has.

No, with the exception of the wheel lip mouldings, ALL of your side trim is held on with many clips and rivets. If you take it off, you are going to have LOTS of holes in the body.

The wheel lip mouldings can be easily removed without anyone knowing they were even there.

The upper trim on *my* truck is held on with adhesive double-stick tape.

Yep another truck with wheel opening moldings and race track.
Here is a link down about half way.

Sure enough, what kind of work did my previous owner do to put all that top trim on, if it was an owner install it is all pretty straight. Not that I'm keeping it all, just looks like a lot of work. The trim issue will wait till it goes to paint , which is well over a year away. My order of work will be drivetrain, interior then last is exterior. I do enjoy the tips, pictures and references till then.

Factory use a combination of ways to mount the moldings.
There were litter studs fitted to the panels that clips fit on and the moldings snapped over them.
There were also stud clips fitted to the molding and holes drilled in the panels the threaded stud would go thru and a nut put on from the back side.

The litter studs are easy to remove just grind them off.
The holes are harder as they need to be welded then ground smooth.
I just did this to 2 fenders but did not get pictures as it is common to do it that way.

I should add if yours were added then as posted they most likely used pop rivits to hold the clips in place of the litter studs so you would have more holes to weld up.

If me I would leave them on as it brakes up a long 1 color side of the truck and remove the wheel moldings.
