Race track trim question

Race track trim question
One more question for all dentside gurus. I am installling new race track trim on my dent and ran across a problem. The new trim that attaches to the bed side has 4 clips that attatch above the wheel well that include 4 rubber pieces of some sort. I have no idea where these pieces go attached. I imagine they are suppose to attach between the molding and the clip but not sure. I installed the trim piece on the drivers bed side and left the rubber pieces off and now have a gap between the trim and bed. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks guys and gals!

On the original clips they used a small disc type piece of rubber that went over the stud of the clip. The replacement could be what you speak of. Post a picture of it.
The lower trim has some clips that are retained with nuts and some of the other clips just push thru a hole in the body.

Ranger,
Packages were sealed and they each included the clip and rubber piece. When I installed the clips only with the trim there is a gap in between the trim piece and the body of the truck. I understand that there are 4 clips above the wheel well that just clip in with no nuts to screw due to access limitations. I'm really confused now

Was this trim NOS ford stuff or aftermarket? I'm guessing this is aftermarket trim. Looking at that piece of rubber it looks as though it may fit inside the trim and act as a cushion between trim and paint.
That is correct on the "no nut" clip. You cannot access the backside so they are a push in clip. The others use a nut on the backside.

Ranger,
The clips came from Dennis Carpenter. What you are saying makes lots of sense the only thing that confuses me is the gap that is still left behind. Right now there is a gap and the trim appears a bit loose as if the clips wiggle when I touch the trim. All other clips and nuts are nice and tight but the 4 clips on the wheel well area are somewhat loose.

Did you try putting the piece of rubber behind the clip on the inside of the trim? I'm guessing that that will push the trim out to far from the body.
Don't know what else to tell ya. Call DC and see what they say. Originally there was no rubber used at all in the mounting of the moulding.

Did you ever find out how that rubber piece was supposed to be installed?
I'm doing mine right now and I'm scratching my head on how it is supposed to be installed. I don't recall having any rubber piece in place when I removed my trim. Maybe it rotted away? Maybe it doesn't get used for certain models?
Thanks for any help you can provide
