I have a 66 Ford F 100...I thought the previous owner said the steering was from a 75 Ford... Anyway I bought a 66 steering wheel from Dennis carpeter and it didn't fit... The bolt and rod stuck out too much and the center cap wouldn't fit on.
i really liked the wheel and look but I had to send it back.
I guess I am going to go with a Grant wheel but unsure of the year of the column
How do I figure out what year my column is so I can buy a correct fitting steering wheel.
I have no idea how to post pics on the forum
The gear shift on the column reminds me of my dad's old 1970 galaxie 500 we had when I was a kid
I bought Grant's universal install kit to go with my new 15" steering wheel. Worked like a charm on my '65. Little more effort required on the turns because there's not as much leverage as with the original 17" wheel, but I like the look and my 6'2" frame fits a whole lot better in the cab!!
There was another post about this exact subject matter from I believe JK68, definitely the guy from Germany. I am bad at searching for posts and then posting links so I will let TA455HO lead the way.

Sounds like the truck has been converted to power steering and the easiest thing to do is swap the column because of the connect point in the engine bay. When you put the correct for model wheel in, you found there is a difference in thickness. I suggest cutting the end of the shaft so that the horn button will go on.
Think of it like a hair cut, your ears stay in place.

3 spoke 17" steering wheel using a horn button or horn ring:
1961/66 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F100 4WD; 1967/70 F100/350.

1971/72 F100/350.

2 spoke steering wheel using a horn pad w/horn switch. 4 way flasher made as part of T/S switch, its button protrudes from upper flange.
1973/77 F100/350.

2 spoke steering wheel (w/horn pad/switch) different than 1973/77, its ends curve downward. Same setup with 4 way flasher.
1978/79 F100/350.
There is no way to install a horn button or horn ring on a 1971/79 steering wheel.
Upper pic: 1971/72 F100/350 steering wheel, similar to 1973/77.
I cut the column to be able to install the steering wheel and horn button.
Did it with a hand saw. It took a while but I had more control of the position of the cut.
