Okay guys what are you using for aftermarket steering columns and what length. I bought a coulmn shift setup but now I would like to do a floor shift setup...Please include the column length...
No such thing as a "standard length" for the steering column. Depends on many variables: steering gearbox, U joint length, steering wheel adapter if needed, steering wheel diameter and dish, seating position, body build, driving position/relationship you prefer. That's why they make tilt and telescoping columns.
I'd suggest starting with the steering wheel you prefer. I used a 15" diameter, I think common "import tuner" 13" wheels look too small for a truck, larger wheel drops into my lap when tilted. That choice will determine if an adapter is needed or not. If an adapter is needed, I'd suggest ordering it from the column manufacturer, it's likely to be the shallowest one and fit the contours of the column. Next do as John suggested only put your wheel (and adapter) on the broomstick to determine the best length and column drop for you. Finally order your column and drop.
I am using an Ididit. It was 32" (what I was told was the "standard length" for my 56)when I got it, but I ended up shortening it 2" with my wheel and the seating position for my wife and myself. I also have 6 way power seats.
