So I recently purchased a 1994 F150 4x4 5.8 w/ AODE transmission 140 ish miles. Truck will not go into any gear except 4L drive/ no reverse
1) previous owner took it to a shop and they said it could be a Torque converter issue- original diagnosis it would not go into reverse
When I got it there was no reverse and was trying to go forward but failed and stalled- at first had issues getting the transfer case into neutral.
Once I got it home I experimented with it, putting it into 4L the truck was able to move forward but no reverse. Outside of that no other movement.
I have read several articles saying it could be the transfer case and some saying it could be the transmission.
anyone run into this or suggestions?
It sounds like trans to me. Putting the transfer case into low range puts less load on the trans, so a marginal trans is more likely to drive with the t.case in low than with it in high. But the problem is that the trans won't drive.
