There are too many choices at ford-parts.com to know which transmission filter my car takes. I've got the 2008 4x4 Lincoln Mark LT.
Which one does it take?
The Mark LT only got the 4R75E transmission unless he got a manual in which case he wouldn't have asked for a filter. There were no other options for an automatic other than the 4R75E.
Can I just use the Fram FT1167A? I lazily identified it on Amazon, which I sort-of trust.
They say it's a match.
Is there any animus toward Fram transmission filters here as there often is for the orange can of death oil filter?
Does the exact filter for the 4R75E vary depending on coolers and other diffferences?
Motorcraft also says the FT-138 and FT-147 are possible if it has "pump inlet filter" or "pump shaft strainer". FT-182 and FT-183 are choices if you have the "heavy duty aux trans oil cooler". So for Motorcraft, how can I possibly know??

There are people who hate anything Fram, others don't give a hoot, including me. If that is what Fram recommends, then it's probably their correct filter. I wouldn't trust an Amazon.com parts recommendation anyway, I've seen too many that are wrong.

No, there is only one pan filter.

None of those are pan filters. In some cases, filters like those might be replaced only if the transmission is rebuilt. You'd have to do your research to see if they're routine maintenance items or only for special events like a rebuild.
You're overthinking this. If you're going to do a fluid and filter change, just go do it. The Motorcraft filter is only $18 on Amazon, $40 at your local parts store.
Thanks, SHO89.
So you advocate for the FT-105. Interestingly, Amazon indicates that is NOT the right filter for the Mark LT (2008), so your suspicions of them are well-founded.
More interestingly to me, the FT-105 is the same filter for my 2005 Lincoln Town Car.
Does the Town Car really have the same transmission as a large truck? Amazing if so.
I'd never use the Town Car to tow anything, but perhaps I can.(?)
Go to fordparts.com and click on "Buyer's Guide". It returns 2,953 total applications ranging from 1996 to 2017 model years for the "FT-105".
The same filter is used on all of the transmissions based on the same basic design, there have been several generations of them over the last 20 years. It has nothing to do with the towing capacity (or lack thereof) of your Town Car.
