So I'm working on an 00 excursion, as a precursor to buying it... Either i get it going and get a great deal on it, or I don't get it running, and I'm not in it too deep.
anywho... one complaint was that the transmission wouldn't shift out of neutral. The shifter would go to the park position, but the trans was still in neutral.
i tightened to torx screws at the base of the column, then popped off the shift cable. Cable doesn't move. Crawl underneath to see if the cable is faulty, i pop it off of the shift lever, to find the shift lever won't move.
after removing the screws that hold the neutral safety switch to the housing of the transmission, i could move the shifter manually and with the shifter on the column... but the nss moves with it.
anyone else have this happen? Easy way to unstick it? Way to make sure it doesn't get re - stuck?
i went through that with my 02 diesel plow truck. to the point the shifter was so stiff it broke the shift tube twice.
i ended up breaking the NSS off the trans to get it off.
now i can shift with one finger.
