Shocks

2006 F-250 2wd, 6.0l diesel, 85000 miles. Mostly why miles
1. Is there a way to test the shocks?
2. if not, When should you replace them how many miles?

Factory shocks are garbage. Bilstein's or Rancho are the most cost effective replacement. You can look on Rock Auto for replacement part numbers and search rhe net for the best prices.

I replaced mine at 110k. I noticed that it wasn't damping the bumps, but kind of just slowed the rocking motion, like a rocking chair and you picked up your feet. Even then, I can say, that was too long to wait. Bilstein 5100.

I've never heard of a test.

The way you test your shocks or know you need shocks is when the ride is unbearable.

No joke.

When I would hit a bump in the road or go over speed bumps fast there was just no mercy on the suspension.

I know these trucks are stiff, but there is a difference in the ride with good vs worn out shocks.

I went with Gabriel Ultra's and the difference was night and day. Those same bumps in road are easier to go over now.

The wife doesn't mind riding in the truck since I replaced them. Before replacement she told me that I wasn't allowed to go down certain streets with her in the truck cause it was so bad.

About the only way to tell is to remove them from the vehicle and feel the pressure by pushing on the rod up and down if it moves easily in both directions it's bad. Sometimes you can hear the gas as you move them and that could be an indicator also.

As for when to change I think the recommend every 40k to 50k depending on service.

Funny this topic come up today as I received my Rancho 9000's for the front.
