Hey all, I'm looking to upgrade my factory CD player in my 2001 F-250 to something I can use with Bluetooth. It's been a very long time since I've changed a factory radio and have a few questions.
1. Will a "Double DIN" fit / any modifications required?
2. Will it affect the output of my speakers?
I used to change the radio on my mustangs (86/89/93) and it always sounded like crap after I did but I was too young to know what the heck I was doing. I've never done any more research, but it may have been due to a factory amp that I somehow bypassed.
Anyways, you get the point. Is there some "catch" to the sound if I just change the head unit.
I just put in a Pioneer double din head unit on my 01. It was fairly easy. The big thing is you have to modify the dash to fit the bigger unit. If you are pretty handy with a dremil then it is no problem. If not there is many other options like a small saw then go over it with a file to smooth out the edges. Once the opening is to size there is a couple ways you can wire it. Depending on the head unit you might be able to get a plug and make some quick wire connections. For me I ended up having to rewire everything. For speakers the stock ones will work just fine but if you do want a better sound then upgrading the speakers will help. On a side note, if you are adding a backup camera like I did you will more than likely need to get the aux cable extension because the one that comes with the kit is about 6" to short. Hopefully this helps and Good luck.
