I was wondering if anyone knows which current headunits fit in a 94' Ford f250 Turbo Diesel ext cab. Also, are the stock speakers able to handle the power of a real cd head unit (original in the truck is just a cassette am/fm radio). I know they can't be good quality speakers but will they do the trick with a new headunit?
I have yet to see a head unit that was capable of more than 15w rms, even if it claims 50w x4. The factory speakers have no problems handling the output of a Pioneer or Alpine head unit, but just about any aftermarket 2-way replacement speaker will sound better and have more high end sparkle.
My sony headunit fit right into the old radio spot, and I had the same radio as you do. Remember to take the white plastic guide off the back of the old radio and put it on the new head unit so the headunit goes in level and doesnt flop around.
as long as it is single DIN (which most aftermarket stereos are), it'll fit no problem. if you're asking which OEM stereo would fit, i'd have to ask why you would bother. a decent aftermarket HU should do just as good if not better for cheaper.
as far as speakers go, pretty much anything you can buy out there (with the exception of the uber-cheap stuff) will handle the power from a HU just fine and sound better than factory. as far as brand, that's personal preference. i could recommend a few, but the best way to do it is to just stand in front of a couple of pairs at a stereo store and see what tickles your fancy.
