Checking the compression and turbo might be a good idea too, despite those low miles. My buddy Bubba Jones who swapped a 7.3 from a f250 into his bronco had 186k on the odometer, and assuming that was correct mileage and wasn't a roll over from 400,000, his was in not good shape at that mileage. It that K&N filter on it and he said his turbo wheel was f*****. He swapped out the wheel and changed the filter. He noticed he had a ton of diesel mixing with his oil so he did a compression test and it was not good. Engine ran fine but diesel was getting into the oil. Not saying this is the case but from what I have read about these K&N filters is basically do not ever use them. And if that filter has been on for any length of time, you might want to peep that turbo.
I second the CPS thing. I had my truck maybe 3 weeks and it went out on me. Then a few weeks later, I would have this issue where my wait to start light would come on while driving, and it would kill power for 3 seconds, then would be fine. Turned out I had a chip on the PCM and it must not have had a good connection. I removed the chip and haven't had the issue since. Many people recommend checking the fuel bowl heater as well as the relay for the PCM with similar issues.
I'm trying to see how to swap the IPR valve. Is it possible to do without pulling the fuel bowl and regulator? I'm finding plenty of instructions and videos for the swap on the newer models but none for the OBS 7.3.
Looks like I'll have to pull the bowl and regulator.
You can do it w/o pulling the fuel bowl. I made a special tool to do it though. If it were me, I would just pull the fuel bowl and use it as an chance to put new fuel hoses on and clean the valley out.
I changed the fuel pressure regulator, replaced the fuel lines on the bowl, and replaced that screen, it was clogged badly.
Also did the new 6637 air filter, she's running good now.
Thanks for the help everyone.
The performance chip was an easy install too, and made a noticeable difference in power.
Just hauled 5,000 pounds of plywood on the bed and could barely tell it was there.
