Is that picture with the smoke coming out right at startup? My 97 looks pretty close to that much when it first puffs it out, then it smokes a little bit until warmed up. I have replaced everything with the glowplugs except the relay, and I am waiting on my injectors from Rosewood, which I am assuming is my issue. I just changed the oil this weekend and after I ran it I did the blowby test again on mine, and about the same amount of white smoke is coming out of my valve cover, and then the cap doesn't move when placed over the opening. You may find that your engine is fine. I would check the turbo wheel too for damage. If it is totally f%^$ed, I would do a compression test ASAP.

Worn injectors will make it hard starting and smoke too. When armeture clearance drops below .002 timing is retarded and fuel is not properly burnt off.

RE-route the ccv back to the stock location so you don't get that stinky ccv smoke at stop lights. I bet that your ccv pressure will be reduced.

You need a compression tester that has a reading of 450+ psi. Harbor freight carries a set, you'll have to modify the connection to the glow plug hole with a hollowed out glow plug and a grease gun flexible hose.
