Today after the glow plugs cycled I try to start the truck but only spun and didnt try to start (at 60°) I thought it was weird. So I opened the key and let the glow plug cycle again, but to my surprise I heard an explosion inside the engine and out the exhaust and the engine spun by itself, maybe half a turn WTF? I crancked her up and started like nothing happened but a huge cloud of white smoke came out the exhaust most likely unburnt fuel as it smell like it, this never happened before.
Any chance one of the injectors is giving out?
Bad glow plug /Connector they have maybe 160k the GP relay is working I perform a test I still need to test the GP's and wiring.
Low compression? remember my engine has excessive blow by, but has no miss, no power loss, no weird noises. When I go and start the engine it spins without no dead spots cold or hot.
My machinest will have the specs so I can order the rebuild kit from riffraff pretty soon, so once I remove the old engine out we will see what an 800k+ mile engine looks like and see what caused my excessive blow by and oil consumption.
A glow plug ignited the atomized fuel left in a cylinder while cranking. No big deal. It used to be that a guy I know that didn't (at the time) have enough money for a new glow plug relay so he'd crank the engine a few revolutions without waiting to start....just to get some fuel in the cylinders. He'd then cycle the key to wait for the glow plugs. He'd cycle the key UNTIL he heard the "pop". That's when he knew the current was getting to the glow plugs to start it.
This was a nearly daily occurence. Once he finally bought a new relay, no waiting for the explosion!
I had this happen about a week or so ago. The terminal broke off the GPR. Unable to fix at that moment, I just left it. After I was done, I jumped up in the truck and of course it just cranked and cranked. Having remembered my GPR was broke, I jumped out and shorted the terminals so I could get them to come on. About 5 seconds after I started this, I heard this loud pop. I came to the conclusion that whatever fuel was in the exhaust must have ignited. I thought it was kind of cool. lol. Just glad it came out that end and not the intake! lol.
Thats the thing, mine came out the intake and exhaust, there was some fumes coming out the 6637, this wont cause a bent rod would it? Kind like when you hydrock an engine.
I think it would take a pretty big boom to bend a rod. Last time I did injectors I was in a rush and forgot to clear the cylinders of oil.... Got it all back together then hit the key full tilt and bam. Hydro locked then actually hit the key a second thinking starter was acting up(starter problem at the time). Pulled injectors, cleared cylinders, put it back together and tired it up with no issues
