Well it looks like my UPS guy and I are going to be on a first name basis with the amount of parts I've been ordering. One project turns out to be 2 other projects....thus is life with an old truck I guess.
Anyway, I started disassembly of my steering column to replace my shift "bowl" that the shifter goes in and noticed while removing the steering wheel that the steering shaft has excessive up and down play in the bearing that it rides in.
So how hard are these bearings to replace? Can one buy the part that the bearings fit into as an assembly from ford with the bearings already installed as one unit (ref #3511 in the photo)?
Thanks for the links. Any help on part numbers here Number Dummy? I noticed the link is for 67-72 I'm wanting to replace it all (upper column bearing, bearing retainer, and column sleeve that the whole bearing assembly fits into). 76 F100, manual trans, 2wd, manual steering, no tilt.
Just went through this on my 79, upper bearing is held in place with a rubber bushing into the metal housing, pushes in and out with finger pressure. No real reason to replace that housing unless something else is damaged on it.
That's good to know, I was wondering if you had to press them in. Looking to just replace all of it with NOS Ford stuff (even the sleeve) just because I'm **** like that
