Has anyone switched the original orange coolant. Motorcraft is $29 at the dealer,Prestone orange is $15 at WalMart. How about switching to Prestone green?
Because of dis-similar metals in modern engines (I.E. Aluminum heads, cast iron blocks ) I would want to make sure any coolant meets specs for said engine....even if it is more expensive. But, that may be just my thoughts and opinion.
You dont mention what year of truck your driving or if it is under warranty. There are lots of people who will dump any type of coolant into their truck because they just dont care and have no idea what the suggested coolant is for their vehicle. If I was driving a 6.0, 6.4, or a 6.7 I would stick with a good coolant that meets the standard for those engines., just do to how finiky those engines are.
There are lots of auto store branded coolants that are pre-mixed and straight coolant that they specify is for different makes of cars according to the labeling on the jug.
Will they hurt your vehicle if you use say auto store x's branded name of orange for ford coolant, I doubt it.
Myself I just watch for when the parts department has em on a special and go and scoop up a case, I do the same thing with my oil filters. You can always ask the guy behind the counter if you buy a few will you get a discount.
Do I think it would hurt you know. Manufacturers do a lot of private labeling brands. Someone makes the coolant for Ford not like they do it themselves.
