Building an Axle?

I'm looking at a salvage axle from a F700 with Lucas Girling brakes to replace in an older F-850 with straight juice brakes. Can the hydraulic service brakes on the Lucas-Girling setup be used as straight hydraulic brakes ? Or, am I best off replacing the backing plates and abandoning the Lucas-Girling (much more cost) ? The parking brake for that F-850 is on the driveline and is independent of the service brakes. I understand that I would need to permanently release the Lucas-Girling parking brakes somehow. Advice welcome.

If you tighten the caging bolt in the center of the parking unit it would work fine. Would a DOT guy have a problem with that? Just cut the end of the bolt off after you cage them and plug the lines?
I never did that one but different brake systems do not normally bolt up on different axes.

Thanks. I take the latter part of your response to mean that I wouldn't have the option of replacing the backing plates for conversion to a straight juice brake setup. That will be fine, I suppose.

I have put S=cam brakes in place of wedge and old air disc brakes. Both required custom fab work and I would expect the same with what you are doing. Don't know tell you get there unless someone that has done it replies.
