brakes

I know about drum and disc brakes (sorta) ... I have seen exhaust brakes and know about how and why they work ... I am now interested in driveline brakes ... What would be the dis/advantages about them?

You mean a pinion brake? A disadvantage would behaving only one rotor per axle thats gona hafta work twice as hard to stop and cool down. I would think trying to lock up your tires to come to a sudden stop if you had to could be very hard on gears and axle shafts if its even possible. I cant think of anything that would be real advantagious in the long run

Not pinion ... I once saw a disc brake setup on a driveline ... At least that is what it looked like ... perhaps these are more on bigger rigs rather than our everyday drivers ...

They are for parking and usually you only see them on medium weight trucks (14,400-25,900) that do not have air brakes.

Another disadvantage would be a broken u-joint. Then no brakes. I've seen driveline calipers for e-brakes. And mud trucks use them to keep the brakes up higher out of the mud.
