I'll have to look at a tire. My guess is that the maximum pressure is in reference to the hot pressure. If you were to set the cold pressure at that number, you would be beyond the maximum pressure when hot.

I could be wrong, ill have to look. I'm sure it is in very fine print.

No, this is incorrect. You always set tire pressure at their cold temp PSI. As Misky6.0 said, tires will go beyond that PSI when hot and that is normal. I had an email conversation with BFG techs a few years ago regarding my "P" metric tires and how to set them when towing. In the case of those tires, they had one pressure setting and BFG said you always set it that way (cold) no matter what. LT tires are only slightly different in that they can be set at a range but never to exceed the max PSI when cold.

The PDF, from Goodyear, NEVER says exceed the max pressure on the TIRE, it says over the TRAILER's placard PSI recommendation.

Thus, like on the driver door jamb, the trailer placard may say recommended tire pressure 45 lbs. But, we all (?) know too use max pressure OF THE TIRE for max capacity.

I air up to max psi cold and leave it alone.

For a ST tire I would never go beyond that, nor would I lower the pressure either.

There just isn't enough of a safety margin in ST tires.

You are right. I completely misread it.

So if you are using a LRC and your placard says to inflate to 50psi, then you are stuck to a 65mph speed limit.

This leaves one to think that going from a LRC to a LRD *should* let you increase your speed rating if you inflate to the max for a LRD.

But, re reading the memo, it does say to stick to the max cold inflation listed.on the tire.
