Can a restrictive exhaust cause enough back pressure to make the fuel stop flowing? The reason i asked is i went back to my manual pump because i dont think the cheap electric pump was pushing enough pressure to keep the ol girl running. After getting everything hooked back up to original condition i turned the key to start it because i knew it would take a moment to prime the system back. The truck turned over a few times and it sounded like a gunshot. I crawled under the truck and the driver side muffler had split. I decided to try and start it and it fired right up and all my filters and fuel bowl were full. I allowed the truck to run for 15 mins before shutting it off but both filters as well as the fuel bowls on the carb are still full. I will wait for daylight tomorrow and double check everything and replace my muffler before testing it out again.

Possibly, when the carb was full of fuel, it got into a couple cylinders, and then into the exhaust. When you fired it up, the trail of fuel was like a fuse, and the fuel exploded inside the muffler

could be you had excess pressure from the electric fuel pump. Electric pumps generally have too much pressure for an Edelbrock and need a regulator

Thanks for that info. I thought it didnt have enough pressure because even with the filter installed between the main line and where it would have went into the manual pump, I was only getting a trickle. I bought the cheap Mr. Gasket electric pump. It said 5-7 psi and 35GPH flow but it seemed weak.

A mechanics vacuum gauge works good to check for restricted exhaust system

so it's a cumulative kind of thing... is it possible you have just enough crap floating around in the tank that as you drive, you are either coating the external pickup filter with crud to where it shuts off? If you are not using an external slide-on filter screen, that you are sucking up just enough to plug the pick-up pipe - but when it shuts off it gradually unplugs itself? What does the tank interior look like (since you were in it a while back anyway)? You are describing a classic unvented starvation problem but you said you ran it unvented ad have checked for heat vapor locking... I got nothin' else.
