Year to get?

I want a 6.0L Ex to match my SD, which is an 06. I know that the Exs got the 6.0L a year later, correct? So are the 05-07 Exs still the way to go, like the SDs?

I believe you are correct. the neighbors down the road just purchased a 6.0 X and theirs is the 2005. I think they said that and newer is the way to go iirc.

Thanks, I think I want an 06 or 07. The reason I want a 6.0L is because that way I only have to learn one engine, and when I do something to one, I buy 2 and do it to both.

There's no such thing as a 2006 excursion. 2005 is the latest model. It's basically a 2004 with a the 2005 nose on it. Some of the later builds did get some more 2005 stuff but the suspension and interior was always 2004.

Model year 05 was the last model year. The 6.0L was available from 03-05.

Not made by Ford. There are some people out there that will take a new F-Series and then put an excursion body on it and call it a 2016 Excursion, but that's a moniker of a custom build not an actual designation.

Dunno what you mean by a year later, but the 6.0L PSD's were introduced to the Excursions midyear through the 2003 MY run, just like the F-series trucks.

The guys have you squared away on the MY's Ford made and sold Excursions in the US, 2000 - 2005.

Full disclosure that I am not a 6.0 guy, but if I remember correctly, there are engine differences between the early 2005 builds and the later ones.

The later 2005 models were updated with newer engine goodies that make them more desirable. I believe you can look at the build date, but there is also a different color sticker near the heads that depict whether or not it is the updated motor.

happy hunting and hopefully someone chimes in and verifies, clarifies or disputes my lapsing memory....

2005 Excursions got 2004 engines (which means the crappy 2004 HPOP) until Ford ran out of '04 engines which was more towards the end of the run. Then they got '05 engines which have the good HPOP but the crappy STC fitting.

The ones with the '05 engine also have a strange 05' computer rigged up to run the '04 dash.

You can see which year engine is there on the valve cover sticker, it will have the engine year right on it. With a keen eye you can also tell by looking at the HPOP cover.

I wouldn't be afraid of an '04 engine personally. Either way you need to pop off the HPOP cover and look. You want to see either a new '04 style pump (dieselsite's adrenaline pump) or look for the updated STC fitting if it's an '05 engine.

Yes, that is what I was getting at. The later ones are much better, I have an 06 F350 and it rocks.
