Man oh man! I thought it was all a bunch of hype. But I guess the end is near. So, does that mean that the 2005 will be the last of the bread? Or will there be 06' models?
Good bye, farewell, you had a good life and kept many families safe from danger. You will be missed by many but still hated by many more. Perhaps we will see you again someday in the form of a newly designed Super Duty. Ford didn't really like keeping you around with all the other smaller SUV's since you intimidated them so much and there owners. From now on used Excursions will have to do.
I think ford has bad management. Comeon....sad to say but chevy came out with the employee discount first and it had sucess...1 months later ford follows....a little too late in the game..Very dumb mistake just like ending production of the excursion...
I am really glad I have my '05, but also a bit dissappointed to see it come to an end.
To say that Ford has bad management due to GM bringing out employee pricing or cancelling the Ex is a bit foolhardy. GM hit it out of the park with the employee pricing...and they had to. GM's line is so stagnant that this was the only way to sell the vehicles. Just about every rear drive platform they had under development has been cancelled except for the new GTO. They continue to play catch-up with Ford in the truck arena too.
Ford & Chrysler had to follow suit with the pricing deal as GM sales were up 47% the first month of the plan. If memory serves me, it was the best GM month since the '90s. The Ford dealers we work with are doing very well with the plan. All the makers should simply lower their prices to closer to the actual figures at which vehicles change hands.
As far as the end of the road for the Ex..it all kind of makes sense. While we all love the Ex..it certainly does not sell in big numbers. Here in the Philly Zone...3 a month is about average. The month I bought mine (Jan '05) only two sold. It just doesn;t make business sense to keep a vehicle on with such low sales figures. It's a business decision that we dislike, but certainly should be able to understand. Just configuing the Ex and getting it rated and all with crash testing, EPA, etc, to add the newer engines was no doubt more than Ford was willing to do.
Maybe it is time for the rebirth of the Centurion (pre-Excursion). Now there is a large group of dedicated 3/4 ton SUV owners who want to continue having such a capable vehicle.
I love the excursions but here in tomball are dealer cant seam to sell enough of them. I know we bought one in 2001. I hope they make them again, if i was buying another suv that would be it.

They converted a F250/350 crew cab to the equivalent of the Surbuban back then (late 80s). Centurion is actually the name of the vehicle conversion company. Here is a link to a picture of one.
I know that some markets..Texas no doubt being one....that Excursions are wanted.
Maybe I need to make my point clearer. The month I bought mine, January '05, only 2 Excursions were sold in the Philly market. This is an area that includes all of Philadelphia, parts of New Jersey, parts of Delaware and out towards Harrisburg in PA. That's a huge geographical area.
