I have a 95 F150 with a5.0 EFI engine. I have a whining sound when driving down the highway. It doesn't do it at stop idling. when you start out giving it fuel you can hear it, when you leave off the throttle it quits. any ideas? thanks
I know it's coming from the engine. i can open the hood with engine running and give it throttle and not here the noise. Take it out onto the road and driving through the gears (auto tranny) and you can hear it as you accelerate. Leave of the gas and it goes away, give it gas and the sound comes back. Are there any moving parts in the throttle body? Not ready to take it to the ford dealer yet.The last time I went there was for a vacuum leak and they started replacing parts, never did fix the problem. they ordered more parts and sent me home. I went to a friends place of business and he put a vacuum tester on a line and found the problem within a minute. Spliced in a new hose and problem fixed. Haven't been back to that Dealer since. Maybe I'll go down and see this friends place again if nobody here can help me. thanks

Whatever you do, don't take it to the Ford dealer. They're worthless on trucks this old, any independent mechanic can do 10x better for 1/10th of the price.
Are you sure it's coming from the engine bay...? Could be a wheel bearing?
