Well it was diagnosed finally. Was doing the hard shift into second..no OD light, then the long 2500 rpm feather shifts...no light, then the erratic shift with light blinking and then the limp mode until i would turn off truck. Rebuild was 2100-2300.00. Reman tranny from ford dealer is 2649.10 and mechanic friend installing. I hope it provides the correct shifting power my truck has missed for a long time. Tech said there was clutch material in the newly flushed system from 2 weeks ago.
Will a replaced transmission do anything for the cold no-shift until it feathers out the accelerator?
After replacing up pipes, fixing exhaust leaks, and installing new rebuilt tranny....im hoping when i give the girl some fuel, she gets up and goes without the delay and hard shifts and gets some power back
You REALLY need to replace that trans cooler. Flushing it does not get everything out. Also, flush the lines really well, then blow them out with compressed air. I would hate for you to ruin your new transmission just for cost of a $150 cooler.
If you decide to do this it's not hard and not expensive. Highly recommended. Pulling my boat in heavy traffic dead of summer with the old cooler I would see temps in the low 200's and really have to watch it. With the 6.0 cooler I have yet to reach 180.
Replacing the cooler is mandatory. Your rebuild will not last if you don't. Flushing it out is simply not good enough to get all the debris out - and you can count on yours being full of debris. Honestly, if your transmission shop hasn't already told you this, then I have to question their competence and experience.
Upgrading to a 6.0 cooler is a good idea, but it isn't required.
