The mirror fell off again, so I used a flat file to take the smooth surface off the button. I was in the hardware store, and saw "KrazyGlue", and figured I'd give it a shot.
I applied a drop of KrazyGlue, held the button in place for a couple minutes, then let go. It stayed. I let the button cure overnight, and it was still attached the next day. I hung the mirror on the button, and it didn't fall off. I left it overnight, and it was still there the next morning.
I drove the truck that day, and had to adjust the mirror. Very carefully, while holding the button with one hand, and manipulating the mirror in the other hand, I adjusted the mirror. When I was done, the entire assembly fell onto the dash.
Another week went by, and I took the truck to John's Glass on my lunch break. They replace auto windshields, so I asked them to re-attach the button. The technician had a yellow box labeled Loctite 12 and a green spray can (activator?) He marked the windshield from the outside, and two minutes later, he was done. Seems secure. We'll see...

Had the same problem W/my 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer. Liking the smaller mirror in my 92 Ranger, I got another and installed it in the 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer using the Permatex mirror adhesive along W/proper prep. Hasn't come off since 2009. The smaller Ford OEM mirror looks better in my opinion and is easier getting a small / short rosary or Indian Arrow Head or whatever over the smaller mirror.
Mine's still sticking with the IC-2000 but it hasn't been through a summer yet. How much did they charge?

PS, the green can is activator. Cyanoacrylate glues cure in the absence of oxygen. The activator speeds the cure in a less than perfect joint and also can make any glue that is outside of the joint instantly cure. We use it at work with Loctite thread sealer and I use something similar at home with super glue. For fun, drip a drop (he said drip a drop, hehe) or 2 onto a small pile of baking soda or flour. It will cure instantly and rock hard. it will also get real hot if you use to much!
My mirror may not be a Ford original. I've seen one just like it at the auto parts store. Wasn't too expensive if I remember right and uses the same type button that falls off on the Ford mirrors.
I used 3m 5100 marine sealent after trying a bunch of other stuff. Lasted a year so far and won't pull of. It's good stuff to have around very permanent sealant/glue.......
