door latch recall

I received the door latch recall and called to set up an appointment. I thought I'd set it up for next week, sometime in the morning. It turns out that the earliest I could get in would be May. That seems like a long time.

Recalls used to not get announced until parts were available. You can see how that could be a concern. This door latch recall came out in fall last year I think. Parts are limited. We've been getting parts, but we can't simply order parts in for all customers we've sold connects to. For our shop, Ford lets us have three and they must be 1st come 1st served, so it makes setting up appointment hard (someone could come in on a whim and get your part). We've been replacing at oil changes. So May does seem a bit out there, but perhaps if they've sold a ton of the Connects they are running into similar constraints.

From what I can see on the street, it looks like the TC van is doing very well in my area, which would account for the slow fix.

I was mentioning this situation to some friends and I asked what would happen if the door fell off. One friend noted that then I wouldn't have to worry about the latch. That's pretty funny stuff.

haha, yes, good quick sense of humor from them. It hasn't been a common problem, they just recall anything these days.

People buy Jeep Wranglers for a lot of money because they want to drive around with the doors off, and thieves routinely steal doors and sell them back thru gray market channels. Keep your seat belt on while driving and you should be fine. Unlikely that many doors come unlatched in real world use--otherwise it would be all over the news.

Good luck,
George
