Try the opposite route dry ice on the out side of the roof. It should freeze the butyl and contract it enough for most of it to be just pulled off.

I used a Lisle 52000 razor scraper and lots of razors...
I previously tried everything via my grinder with different wheels and even some chemicals. Most of my options just made it too soft to work with and out of frustration I used a scraper and it came right up.
Good luck, it sucks and is messy.
