Make sure to get that on video when you do it!

I would have to call in Red Adair to cap it off. But in his case it would be his ghost.

I tried that once.

It didn't end well.

While I love my drain valve for its cleanliness, does anyone have any solutions to a clean filter change? The old fashion screwdriver through the body does drain it but there is still a mess.

At least they accessible. On my 2014 Ram you pretty much had to access it thru the passenger wheelwell and turn it sideways to get it out. It looks like these drop straight down. I was also checking out the fuel filters last night. Both of them are more accessible than what Ram has.

I use a long hole punch and pop a hole in the filter and let it drain. No mess really. I just let it drain into a pan until it's done, wipe it clean, and thread it off. Very easy oil and filter changes on the 6.7 for sure.

Hold small bucket up above bottom of filter, but with the top of filter still exposed. Reach in with one of the wrenches in the link below. Unscrew and watch all the oil and filter drop into bucket. Not a drop hits the floor or your hand. You are now a winner. Drain oil from nifty valve. Close valve. Fill and install new filter, fill oil pan with oil through fill cap under hood. You are still a winner. Have a beer and celebrate how amazing you are.

This is how I do it.

Cut the bottom out of a 1 gallon milk jug. Hold that under the filter while loosening it. It will catch all the oil that drips out from around the filter. When done, throw away the milk jug.

I haven't climbed under the truck to look and I'm still overseas but is the drain valve on the bottom of the pan or side? The reason I ask is if it's off the side I will purchase the 90 for the ez oil valve.

It's on the back side of the pan facing rearward.

Take an empty 2 liter bottle (soda) cut the top portion off and use the lower half of the bottle to slide over the loosened filter, as you unscrew the filter, the excess oil will over flow into the bottle, then once detached from the engine lower bottle into drain pan with filter still inside.

I am only dreading the first change to put the valve in place.

That is a lot of oil and it comes out in hurry.

Or just stick the nozzle of your shop vac into the oil fill tube, turn it on, and no fuss, no mess switch out..

You are joking, I know, but I do have one of those suction-type deals from Griot's. I use it on the lawn equipment and it works great. It only holds like six quarts though.

Actually, he's not joking. This has been done by a few guys with success. I've never heard of a failure but perhaps those guys are still cleaning up....
