PSOM swap compatibility

My nephew's 1995 F350 CCLB ZF5 7.3 no longer has a functioning speedometer and odometer. All of the other gauges work including the tachometer. Speed sensor in the diff is brand new. Truck drives just fine but I am guessing that is because he has a manual transmission. Assuming the PSOM is shot and needs to be replaced.

What are my options for donors? Can I pull a PSOM out of any 92-97 F Series or Bronco Aero-nose, or does it have to be a diesel cluster? Truck only has 137K original miles so finding one is going to be a little tricky.

Or is there a repair option?

Thanks in advance.

Check fuses first. I think it's fuse #8 that kills the speedometer.

Also do a search. Plenty of discussion in the past. Try this one.

A respected member here who knows has said before they are all essentially the same.

I have a power stroke PSOM in my box of spares & cannot see any difference between it and 6s & V8s that I've pulled. Never taken the time to test it though.

There is a single chip that holds the mileage that can be removed from the original (de-soldered) & installed.

You would want to go with at least a 94 & up which should have the upgrade that address needle shake.

As noted above, the PSOM is common for all engines, gas & diesel. If the odometer display is completely blank verify there is power from Fuse 8 at all times and Fuse 18 when the key is in the Run position.

Here is a diagram for reference:

Check the fuses with a meter. If good, then pull the cluster and verify power is getting to the PSOM. Also inspect the PSOM for signs of cold solder joints and broken components.

I also believe you can swap the EPROM between PSOMs if you have to source a replacement.
