Cab mount bolt options

I bought a set of cab mount bolts a few years ago and I am finally getting the cab on for good. When I tried to tighten one of the front bolts, the locking nut got extremely tight about half way down and I couldn't finish tightening it. I had to end up cutting it off. Is that normal for locking nuts? Can I get away with regular nuts and loctite, or Teflon lock nuts?

Yes you can use Grade 5 bolts. The shoulder on the bolt may be the problem. Take the remaining good bolt to Fastenal or any other bolt supplier and match it up. The Bolts sold are frequently plated or stainless steel (to control corrosion).

That can be a problem with stainless steel fasteners. The use of anti-seize compound on the threads before you install the nuts is a must.

And if you do use SS fasteners and hate the mess that anti-seize makes just use Mylanta or Maalox. Just dip the bolt threads in and screw away! :-)

SS is softer than regular bolts and galls easily.
