Hello, one of my valve bridges came off and I have a few questions. Is this a common thing to happen? Is there a certain way it should go on, does the slotted end go to the top or bottom? The push rod isn't bent and it appears to stick out the same as the others, whether up or down. I did realize that when I did head gaskets last time I forgot to torque the rocker pedestal bolts (the ones on either side of the stud). Do you think this was the cause?.... Thank you for any help!
Here is a great thread in the 6.4L section and I've copied pictures from that thread into this one, same concepts and many times the same parts between 6.0L and 6.4L.
The bridges rarely fail, the broblem usually is something that causes a loss of tension in the assembly. The worst being a lifter failure, but if you search around you'll find failures of the rocker arms, often the ends of the rockers.
The only way of truly checking the pushrods is to remove it, inspect the ends and roll the pushrod on a flat surface to see if there is any bend that will shorten the length.
Hello and Thank you for your replies. I'm pretty certain a lifter failed. I put the rocker bridge back in (after checking the push rod for straightness and the rocker arm condition, they both look good) and the rocker is loose. I measured the height of the rocker arm over the push rod and it is about an 8th inch lower than the other intake rockers when they are at rest (valves closed) It looks like I will be changing motors, as soon as I can get my other one ready (the original one). To: Hawk...it was running fine on about a 50 mile highway trip about 75 mph average, when I got into a 60 mph zone I was cruising along and it started shaking, I thought that an injector failed (I had one fail before) otherwise there were no sounds or symptoms leading up to it....BG
Thank you for the well wishes Copper,Farm...I'm sure I'll be back on here for more advice before all is said and done.
To: TooManyToys there really wasn't much to look at but I thought you might like to see my homemade valve spring compressor
It's actually a factory rebuilt crate motor that I got real cheap (I guess I got what I paid for). It has about 70,000 miles on it. Number 6 intake lifter.

Dang. Sorry to hear it. At least it was cheap I guess. If you tear it down and think of it post up the carnage.
I've got a factory rebuild as well at 70k and have to get under the valve covers to check mine as I believe I hear a valve train issue too. At least yours was cheap.
