Weren't the low-boy '77s the new style grille? No, all 1973/77 F100/350's use the same grille frame.
I had a couple that were titled as '77's, didn't realize the split in the parts book was at the model year - that makes more sense, though. Okay, '78 - 79.
"Low Boys" (F250 4WD) assembled from serial number Y40,001 (1977) and 1978/79.
1973/1977 serial numbers (last 6 digits of the VIN) contain 1 letter, 5 numbers. 1978/79 serial numbers contain 2 letters, 4 numbers.
Thanks for the information, I added the letters to my 1985. I prev had a 1981 and I like the hood with letters and so I added just now and hope it turns out great.
I used the 2m weatherstripping gasket (black snot) to put on the letters after I cut off the posts. I didn't want to drill holes in the hood. Also, that comes off with gas so I can remove easy.
There is that tape, but I didn't fill the letters up enough with liquid nail and got impatient. I hope they hold up well. I wish now I had filled the letters up better
