Replacing a motor

'06 E450 with a 6.0. I know the engine is detuned from the same engine in an F-series so that it runs cooler in the smaller engine compartment. Is that done through the computer or are there mechanical differences between the engines?

I have to do major work on my van which requires taking the engine out, trying to figure whether it'd be easier/cheaper to just swap a different one in or rebuild the one I take out. Easier to source used 6.0s in F-series than vans, and need to know if I would have to swap out anything on the engine as well.

I believe the turbo is smaller and produces less boost in the van applications, and from what I have seen with these vans you need to lift the body off the frame to remove the engine.

Great info. I'll check the turbo. It'd be easy to swap out while the engine is out. This is an ambulance so the cab ain't coming off. But the engine can come out the front. Either way is a huge pain. I think I blew the head gaskets, but would want to check the heads out, put studs in, etc. if I broke it open. May be easier to just swap a used engine in.
