I picked up my truck on Saturday but yesterday I noticed a couple of issues with the paint that I didn't notice at the dealer. They are both hard to see unless the light hits them right and it was over cast when I picked it up which is probably why I didn't see them. On the drivers side of the bed right up at the top there are 2 little scratches, it is hard to tell how deep they are but you can feel them with your finger nail. On the passenger side I can't tell what is wrong with it but if you are viewing it from a sharp angle like walking down the side of the truck it almost looks like it was dented or something but you can't feel anything. Has anyone had these kinds of issues and went back to Ford with any success? They aren't huge issues but I don't know if the scratch will cause the clear coat around it to have issues or anything like that. It is crazy that I brand new truck would already have paint issues which in my opinion is one of the worst kinds of issues.
I had a fairly good scratch in the door when I picked mine up . The salesman took it in the back to their detailer and returned with a scratch free truck .
It's not crazy. Its life. My old truck roof had to be repainted.
Talk to dealer. Make it clear before they pipe up that damage was there prior to picking it up. Hopefully they are good and do t just throw it back at you and say you took the truck how do we know you did not damage it...
I talked to the dealer this morning about the scratches and they are going to get it scheduled with the touch up people. When it is there for the touch up I will just have to show them the other issue and see what they say about that.
A good detailer will be able to tell how deep the scratches are. Very possible just to sand them with a 1500 or 2000 grit paper and polish. If it is deeper it can be repaired with a catalyzed clear code and a fine brush filling them to the level of surrounding paint. Then sand it smooth and polish. Pretty much undetectable. I would avoid painting the panel.
